Bela Black Strikes Back

This is a really cool fun, time consuming activity. I have been doing it while giving tech support/advice to friends and customers (for some reason my logic works better if I am not focusing directly on the conversation/issue).

Here is the link: Canon Papercraft

So far I have only built the Toucan but there are plenty of weird little creatures, luck charms, architectural objects to choose from.

EWwww This is just NASTAY!

Hope you enjoy’d! Don’t forget to wash your neck!

This video scares me!

NTAP is great, don’t get me wrong.. but this video is just something else. (possibly because I find Eminem totally disgusting)

New Tooth Cavity Protection: Nanoparticles Make Surface Too Slippery For Bacteria To Adhere

Researchers adopted polishing technology used in the semiconductor industry (chemical mechanical planarization) to polish the surface of human teeth down to nanoscale roughness. Roughness left on the tooth after the polishing is just a few nanometers, which is one-billionth of a meter or about 100,000 times smaller than a grain of sand.

Sokolov and Gaikwad showed that teeth polished in this way become too “slippery” for the “bad” bacteria that is responsible for the destruction of dental enamel. As a result the bacteria can be removed fairly easily before they cause damage to the enamel.

Yes we’re all going to die, nano-particles are going to destroy all life including bacteria.

Where does all the plastic go?

October 20th, 2008

As children we have been led to believe that a magical vortex sucks away all of the garbage and takes it away to a land of non-existence. Unfortunately, the vortex is real but it isn’t magical and it doesn’t goto a land of non-existence.

To our surprise or … (reluctancy in finding) not one but two of these vortex have been found to be residing in the Pacific ocean and are now a whopping size that is twice the size of the continental United States.

Yes, two swirling cesspools of GARBAGE, consisting of 90% plastic waste.

Out of site, out of mind?

That is of course until it comes ‘barfing’ onto shore and/or kills off a major part of the circle of life.

See the full article here

So, what comes to mind here is ways to eliminate the use or over-usage of plastic.

We’ve all seen these suggestions before but come on people, this is serious.

Here are a few things I’m going to do.

Ways to lower your use of plastic products -

- Purchase beverages, including milk bottled with glass, aluminum or paper.
- Don’t use the plastic baggies they offer when you’re checking out at the store, bring your own re-usable bag or just carry stuff out in a buggy
- Get purchased items such as meat, veggies etc wrapped with wax paper or paper or use re-usable containers
- Do not use plastic forks, plates or cups – use glass, paper or ceramic
- Take your meals in re-usable tupper wear and wash it out, don’t throw it away
- Be concious; when you come across something that is not recyclable or biodegradable, think of an alternate or a different approach

Yes, I know we all saw this coming.

The streams of data networks aren’t so tangible and … of course they had to come up with something to quench that consumerist fist filling needs.

Pretty neat stuff if you ask me! Maybe they’ll start putting the classics in bubble gum machines?

Too cute.

The Bat Bomb

June 18th, 2008

Bat bombs were tiny incendiary bombs attached to bats developed by the United States during World War II with the hope of attacking mainland Japan.

Bat Bomb

The plan was to release bomb-laden bats at night over Japanese industrial targets. The flying bats would disperse widely, then at dawn they would hide in buildings and shortly thereafter built-in timers would ignite the bombs, causing widespread fires and chaos.

The bat bomb idea was conceived by dental surgeon Lytle S. Adams, who submitted it to the White House in January, 1942, where it was subsequently approved by President Roosevelt. Adams was recruited to research and obtain a suitable supply of bats.

Well we all dream of a ‘better world’. We’ve all seen Mad Max, Waterworld, 1984 and the likes.

Hey people – Viva la Revolution!

Here it is, yet another alternative energy source.

RUN YOUR CAR FROM WATER? IT can’t be you say? Nah. Well here IT is, they say. I don’t have the resource to test it.

You let me know how it works out if you do.

Forewarning: The following link is asking you to BUY the schematics on how to create this thing. I’m sure you can probably find this online for free somewhere if you dig deep enough.

A Slingbox can redirect up to four live Audio/Video signals from a cable box, satellite receiver, PVR, or other Audio/Video source to the viewer’s PC located anywhere nearby, such as in home or office, or, when using a broadband Internet connection, anywhere in the world.

Don’t upgrade your CABLE, hell don’t even waste your time ordering it!

I will be able to use my existing setup (Computer connected to my 52″ TV).

I will purchase a ‘Sling Box’ and connect it to my Mom’s Cable Box(or anyone I trust not to tamper with the box) and Voila, I get the same Cable stations at my house that is 2 hours away.

The Slingbox utilizes Sling Media’s proprietary SlingPlayer to display audio and video on Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh running Mac OS X, and select mobile devices. SlingPlayer is not available for Linux, BSD or other open source systems. However the Windows version of SlingPlayer will run on open source systems via Wine. The latest SlingPlayer version for Windows is version 1.5 (technically 1.5.0.325). This version adds or improves support for specific audio/video devices.
