New Tooth Cavity Protection: Nanoparticles Make Surface Too Slippery For Bacteria To Adhere

Researchers adopted polishing technology used in the semiconductor industry (chemical mechanical planarization) to polish the surface of human teeth down to nanoscale roughness. Roughness left on the tooth after the polishing is just a few nanometers, which is one-billionth of a meter or about 100,000 times smaller than a grain of sand.

Sokolov and Gaikwad showed that teeth polished in this way become too “slippery” for the “bad” bacteria that is responsible for the destruction of dental enamel. As a result the bacteria can be removed fairly easily before they cause damage to the enamel.

Yes we’re all going to die, nano-particles are going to destroy all life including bacteria.

Ranting for the Masses

March 26th, 2008

My thoughts have been all bottled up and tucked away in my own soup for long enough.

What has inspired this Rant ?

OK. So a co-worker/friend of mine just told me she had to get a  ‘background check’ to live in her neighborhood.

Thoughts that come to mind:

Chaos, military state, chivalry, independence, black eyes, crowded prisons, society, brainwashing, the dream I had..

Was it a subway, bus, train?

Red or Gray Seats?

Snowy Avalanche of Wind Swarming Outside the Window; Quite Possibly my Worst Nightmare.

(they have a name)

Small Hand-held device,  Paper Thin Glass ..

Fingertip Movable Objects ..

Vulnerability to Everything Except the Direct few Surrounding Bodies.

Where are we going??? Away From the Storm.

He sat Beside of me, his Slender Figure Thrown into Black Drapery.  Gazing at me from his Pale Face and Beady Eyes, he touched my arm and gasped  “Look, Look at This! You Will see that Global Status Indicator (a Movable Beacon) it’s Nano-Sensitivity can Lead us Away From the Storm. We’re OK”

Aerogel – Super Insulator

February 10th, 2008

This smoky super insulator was developed by NASA for catching comet dust. In awe of it’s semi-transparent, eery look, it is a very pricey material at $160 for a less than 2x2x2 square. If you were to put a piece between your hand and a blow torch, you would not be able to feel the heat from the blow torch at all. If this material were mass produced you could insulate your entire house and only have to run AC or heat for only minutes a day.
